SJ Nielsen has spent years turning a quiet obsession into a livelihood. She sells her work. She builds community. She earns a living doing the thing she loves in the place she loves. But she wants more. She wants her paintings to live where her subjects live: inside a national park.

Watercolors is a short documentary that follows SJ as she makes her boldest move yet, pursuing a formal partnership with a national park that could define her career. The film unfolds in two registers at once: the present-tense pursuit of that dream, and the story behind the artist who dared to reach for it.

Along the way, we hear from the people closest to her work - her husband, and the small business owners who sell and celebrate her art. Together, they paint a portrait of what it means to build something beautiful and sustain it.
